To help you plan your flight with Blue Islands, all information regarding hold luggage allowances, cabin baggage, sports equipment and more can be found below.

WHAT IS THE HOLD BAGGAGE ALLOWANCE FOR BLUE ISLANDS?

Each passenger can take one item of hold baggage up to 23kg with the Blue Fly fare type, and two items of hold baggage of up to 23kg each with the Blue Plus fare type.

BLUE FLY

Blue Fly fares include one checked item of hold luggage. The maximum weight is 23kg.

BLUE PLUS

Blue Plus fares include two checked items of hold luggage. The maximum weight allowed for each item of baggage is 23kg.

WHAT IS THE CABIN BAGGAGE ALLOWANCE FOR BLUE ISLANDS?

Each passenger can carry one cabin bag measuring up to 55 x 36 x 20cm plus a handbag or laptop with a combined weight up to 10kg into the cabin, (to include the handbag/laptop). This cabin baggage allowance applies to our Blue Fly and Blue Plus fares.

From surfing in Jersey to golf in Devon, we want you to be able to enjoy your chosen sport at your destination, which is why you can use your included 23kg hold luggage allowance for your sporting equipment.

As there is limited capacity for sporting equipment in the aircraft hold, if you do wish to travel with surf boards, skis, bicycles or other items of sporting equipment or objects of an unusual size, all you need to do is contact our Customer Care team and tell us which you would like to check-in as hold luggage.

If you have booked a Blue Fly fare, you have 1 x 23kg hold luggage allowance, if you have a Blue Plus fare, you have 2 x 23kg hold luggage included, additional hold luggage items can be added to your booking for £20.

We recommend allowing extra time at the airport for check-in and using any airport specific oversized baggage facilities.

Golf equipment

If you wish to travel with your golf clubs these can be carried as your included 23kg hold luggage allowance. There is a limit to the number of golf bags we can carry on a flight please contact our Customer Care team to include your golf clubs as your hold luggage.

Surfboards

If you wish to travel with your surfboard please contact our Customer Care team.

Bicycles

If you wish to travel with your bicycle, in a suitable bag, this can be carried as your included 23kg hold luggage allowance. There is a limit to the number of bicycles we can carry and as with all sporting equipment bicycles are carried subject to space. Please contact our Customer Care team to include your bicycle as your hold luggage.

Skis & snowboards

For ski trips we can accommodate skis and snowboards, please contact our Customer Care team to include your ski or snowboard.

If you wish to carry Sporting guns & ammunition, please contact our Customer Care team.

There are several ways your musical instrument can travel.

Items measuring less than 55 x 36 x 20cm can part of your cabin baggage allowance.

Larger musical instruments, one per passenger, weighing less than 20kg, can be carried in the cabin when you purchase a seat for the item. The item will need to secured with a safety lap strap and must be next to you on the inside seat (next to the window). The centre of mass must not be more than 30cm above the seat cushion.

Please contact our Customer Care team if you wish to purchase a dedicated seat for your musical instrument.

For other musical instruments you will need to check them in as hold luggage in a suitable protective case.

We recommend adequate travel insurance is also obtained.

 

Additional pieces of hold luggage will be charged at £20 per item.

Excess hold luggage is carried subject to space availability, if your luggage travels on the next available flight, you will need to collect this from your destination airport.

The maximum weight for a single item of checked-in hold item is 32kg.

If in the event you have excess or oversized cabin baggage this may need to be placed as hold luggage, there may be a £20 hold luggage charge to pay depending on your allowance.

The maximum weight of a single item of hold luggage is 32kg.

Restricted cabin baggage

There are restrictions on what you can take in your cabin baggage and hold luggage for flights departing from UK and Channel Island airports. For more information please see the UK Government website on Hand luggage restrictions.

If you carry liquids in your cabin baggage
  • These must all fit into a single transparent plastic bag which is resealable and measures approximately 20 x 20cm, (similar to a sandwich or freezer bag)
  • The contents must fit comfortably in the plastic bag so it can be easily sealed
  • An individual container within the bag must hold no more than 100ml of liquid
  • Each passenger is limited to 1 plastic bag
  • You must present your plastic bag at the airport security
Liquids include
  • All drinks including water
  • Liquid or semi-liquid foods including honey, jams and soup
  • Cosmetics and toiletries including creams, lotions, oils, perfumes, mascara and lip gloss
  • Perfumes, hairsprays and deodorants
  • Toothpaste, hair and shower gel
  • Contact lens solutions
Exceptions - Baby milk and baby food

When travelling with a baby you can carry baby food, baby milk and sterilised water for the flight and you are not restricted to 100ml limit. You can also carry breast milk in cabin baggage even when the baby is not travelling. Items may be opened as part of the screening process by airport security.

Exceptions - Essential medicines

You may carry certain items of essential medicines and equipment in your cabin baggage provided you have supporting documentation,

 

You may take your mobile phone, tablet, laptop electric shaver in your cabin baggage.

You can use your devices on board flights as long as the 'Airplane' mode is enabled, meaning that the phone cannot communicate with any other devices, make/receive phone calls or browse the internet. This is to avoid the phone from interfering with the operation of the aircraft. Phones should be carried on your person or in your cabin baggage, i.e. not in your hold baggage. The Captain may restrict the use of devices at certain times.

Electronic cigarettes - e-Cigarettes

Battery-powered portable electronic smoking devices such as e-cigarettes must not be placed in checked baggage and devices must not be used or recharged in the cabin.

Smart baggage

Smart bags are allowed in the cabin or hold, providing the battery can be removed and terminals protected. 

Hoverboards

Hoverboards cannot be checked into the hold or carried into the cabin on any Blue Islands flight. Hoverboards may also be known as airwheel, solowheel, mini-segway, segway board or balance wheel.

Firearms and stunning devices are not permitted in the cabin and may be checked in as hold luggage subject to approval*, items may include:

  • Firearms of all types such as pistols and shotguns
  • Toy and replica guns
  • Compressed air and CO2 guns such as pellet guns
  • Flare and starter pistols
  • Bows, cross bows and arrows
  • Harpoon and spear guns
  • Slingshots and catapults
  • Stun guns, tasers and stun batons
  • Animal stunners

*Certain firearms can be carried subject to Blue Islands approval, please contact our Customer Care team.

Work tools are not permitted in the cabin and must be checked in as hold luggage, items may include:

  • Chisels
  • Saws, including cordless portable power saws
  • Knives
  • Hammers
  • Pliers
  • Spanners
  • Crowbars
  • Drills and drill bits, including cordless power drills
  • Screwdrivers
  • Bolt guns and nail guns
  • Blowtorches

Objects with a sharp edge or point are not permitted in cabin baggage, these include:

  • Corkscrews
  • Knives and Box Cutters
  • Scissors
  • Arrows, darts or swords
  • Razor blades
  • Axes, hatchets and cleavers

Items that may be carried in cabin baggage include:

  • Umbrella
  • Walking stick / cane / aid

Blunt objects that could cause harm are not permitted to be carried in cabin baggage, these may include:

  • Baseball, softball and cricket bats
  • Clubs and batons such as billy clubs, blackjacks and night sticks
  • Martial arts equipment

Restricted luggage

For safety reasons there are some items which cannot be carried on the aircraft, either as hold luggage or cabin baggage, there are some items which can be carried subject to Blue Islands approval.

PORTABLE ELECTRONIC DEVICES (PED) CONTAINING LITHIUM METAL OR LITHIUM ION CELLS OR BATTERIES

There is a limit of 15 items per passenger when carried by passengers for personal use items include, medical devices such as portable oxygen concentrators (POC) and consumer electronics such as cameras, mobile phones, laptops and tablets etc.

For lithium metal batteries the lithium metal content must not exceed 100 Watt Hours.

Devices in hold baggage must be completely switched off and must be protected from damage.

Baggage equipped with a lithium battery, other than lithium button cells, the battery must be removable. If offered as hold luggage the battery must be removed and carried in the cabin.

items with a Watt Hour rating exceeding 100 but not exceeding 160 & spare or loose batteries

For portable medical electronic devices only, lithium metal content exceeding 2g but not exceeding 8g. Devices in hold baggage must be completely switched off and protected from damage.

You will need approval to carry these items on the aircraft, please contact our please contact our Customer Care team 48 hours prior to departure to advise of the items.

Maximum of two spare or loose batteries in cabin baggage only. These batteries must be individually protected to prevent short circuits. 

The following items cannot be carried on the aircraft as hold luggage or cabin baggage:

  • Radioactive material, oxidising materials or organic peroxides including bleaches and fibreglass repair kits
  • Corrosives or bleaching agents such as mercury, acids, alkalis, and wet-cell batteries
  • Vehicle batteries and fuel systems
  • Self defence or disabling sprays (for example mace, pepper spray)
  • Poisons or toxic substances such as insecticides weed killers, arsenic, and cyanide
  • Infectious substances or biological hazards such as infected blood, bacteria, viruses
  • Materials that could spontaneously combust (burst into flames), including deeply refrigerated flammable, non-flammable and poisonous gases such as butane, oxygen, propane, and aqualung cylinders
  • Fire extinguishers

Explosives and incendiary substances and devices cannot be carried in hold luggage or cabin baggage on the aircraft including:

  • Firearms such as handguns, automatic weapons and flare guns*
  • Ammunition including blank cartridges
  • Blasting caps
  • Detonators and fuses
  • Mines, grenades and other explosive military stores
  • Fireworks and other pyrotechnics
  • Dynamite, gunpowder and plastic explosives
  • Smoke canisters and crackers

We want to everyone to have an enjoyable and comfortable flight. If you have a battery powered mobility aid or wheelchair, you will need to complete our assistance form at least 48 hours prior to the departure of your flight.

Lost property

If you've forgotten something on one of our flights or in the airport, hopefully we can help.

If you have forgotten something on board after flying on a Blue Islands flight, our Cabin Crew will hand it to our Ground Handling representatives at the destination airport which will then be passed to the airport's lost property office. This may take up to 24 hours during busy periods.
