The Southampton Roadshow visited Guernsey and Jersey in conjunction with Blue Islands to promote tourism in Hampshire and inspire travellers to use Southampton Airport as a link into the heart of London.
The event was held at the Grand Hotel in Jersey and at St Pierre Park in Guernsey and offered insightful information on the available attractions, tourism and business opportunities in the region. It was a great way for the local people to discover 'destination Southampton'. Southampton is not only a brilliant destination in itself, but the excellent transport links at Southampton Airport make it a convenient alternative airport for travel to London.
To promote the tourism aspect of Southampton, Blue Islands was present to help make the public aware of the increasing number of flights now available from the Channel Islands. Currently running three flights daily from both Guernsey and Jersey, one being a new early 7.15am red eye service starting from £39.
Blue Islands have also partnered with South West Trains, who were also present at Southampton Airport's new initiative, to offer a special return ticket to Waterloo for only £30 for Blue Islands customers. The journey takes just over an hour and is normally priced at around £74.
Rob Veron, Blue Islands' managing director was very pleased.
The event came at an excellent time for us as we recently launched our upgraded service to Southampton on our newest and largest aircraft in the fleet, the ATR-72. This has added 250% more capacity for us to the market, illustrating our further commitment to the island. In addition, we are now offering a Saturday day return service, and new earlier morning red eye departures at 07:15.
Also joining the road show were Paulton's Park (home to the famous Peppa Pig World), SeaCity Museum, Southampton Art Gallery, Beaulieu, the Ageas Bowl, Tudor House and ardens and Business South all promoting the superb attractions the area has to offer.
There was even a special surprise visit from Peppa Pig promoting Peppa Pig World in Paulton's Family Theme Park, located only a short distance from Southampton Airport.
